Speacial Report: Gas, Diesel, Biofuel production from algae - coming soon - While Jatropha feedstock for biodiesel takes two-three years for commercial harvest, algae starts yielding in less than one week. Thereafter, the algae oil can be harvested everyday. Algae oil can be suitably converted to biodiesel and the remaining dry cake serves as an excellent source of protein for livestock. Algae production ponds can be created behind wastewater treatment facilities to capture phosphorous and nitrogen.

Updated 12-23-2008 -
The majority of oil used in America can be bio diesel. Oil recycling equals greater energy independence, and it should be a top national priority. Biofuel is a form of diesel fuel that can be made from many food and non-food feedstocks (vegetable oils, animal fats, recycled restaurant greases, algae, [and pending]), . For anyone interested in building and operating a biodiesel production facility, the federal government now has a user-friendly manual. Competitive contracts for used cooking oil collection are now available for bulk used cooking oil buyers in most states.

Breaking News: The EPA’s Region 7 Biofuels Work Group published this manual titled “Environmental Laws Applicable to Construction and Operation of Biodiesel Production Facilities”. It provides information about federal environmental programs and the roles that federal, state, and local agencies play in relation to companies interested in designing, building, and operating biodiesel manufacturing facilities.
The publication addresses wastewater permits and spill prevention under the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, air operating permits under the Clean Air Act, as well as hazardous waste management under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Pollution Prevention Act, and Toxic Substances Control Act. The manual also covers federal renewable fuels standard (RFS) program registration, renewable identification number (RIN) registration, blending, exporting, record-keeping requirements and the management of crude glycerin. The publication includes examples for complying with environmental regulations and includes a directory of key federal and state officials.
